I will be taking a study abroad course in London for the entire month of July. I'm going to use this Tumblr to keep everyone updated on my trip :)

Greetings!

Hello friends,

I’ve covered a lot of ground since I last got the chance to write (as you can tell by the pictures). We started off classes this week. I already loved Dr. Fischer, but taking him in the UK is even more fun. Our class is mostly made up of Belmont and MTSU students, with about 3 exceptions. There’s only 18 of us, but I think we’re going to have a fun group.

Yesterday, my friend, Lexie, and I explored the city a bit. We met up with some of her friends from the hostel at a park off the Enbarkment tube line. They all work at a cute little cafe in the middle of this gorgeous, flower filled park. Nana- you would love it! It had a nice view of the London Eye and the bridge. It was a nice way to start off the day. However, there were pigeons everywhere, which grossed me out. The birds are definitely my least favorite part of this trip. Ewww.

We headed across Waterloo Bridge and walked down the bank of the Thames. We walked around the London Eye, but there was a really long line so we decided to wait until another day to ride it. We then walked back across the river via the Westminster Bridge where we ended up right beside Parliament and Big Ben. I’m just going to say it- Big Ben really needs to change his name. He’s not very big at all. He didn’t even chime on time. Lex and I spent the rest of the day calling him Mediocre Ben.

We went by Westminster Abbey, but it closed early that day. Another thing to add to our list of places to revisit.

On our way to Traflanger we passed by the place where the guard’s horses are kept. We missed the changing of the guards (not the big one) by just a few minutes.

We ended our evening at Prince Charles Theatre where we saw a viewing of the 1960’s film BlowUp. It was an odd movie. None of us fully understood it, including Dr. Fischer (if a pop culture expert can’t figure it out then I don’t know who can).

We had class again this morning. We talking a lot about Swinging London. 2 of my classmates did presentations on The Kinks and Cat Stephens. I think I’m going to make a mixed tape of all the music we listen to in class. It’ll be a good reminder of my time here. We began covering the Beatles. Our fieldtrip to Liverpool is tomorrow (which means I won’t sleep a wink tonight)! I’m beside myself with excitement. I’ll probably cry, but I’m ok with that.

Tonight Lexie and I are going to a dinner party hosted by her friend, Serena (a girl from New Zealand). Absolutely everyone on this trip is obsessed with Harry Potter (there’s actually a Harry Potter class offered- taught by a Belmont professor) and they’re all going to see the movie tonight. I decided to save my pounds for something I’d really enjoy (like shopping….) so tonight will probably be an early night for me. We’re leaving for our trip at 7am tomorrow. Ouch.

Hope everyone is doing well! Keep up the e-mails :)

Love,
Car
